Encoding type ID

Definition

Designed to aid the encoding of different character sets used in DVB systems. Allocated to broadcasters, network operators and content producers to identify string encodings within the application area of DVB-SI (EN 300 468), by insertion in the field encoding_type_id in the second byte of the string.

Key fields

  • “Encoding Type Description” – name of a character encoding type, e.g. “ACME Characters”
  • “Encoding Type Specifier” – name of the company or organization which is responsible for the character set described above, e.g. “ACME Fonts, Inc.”
